Xuhui (Michael) Fang is a law professor at Nanchang University, a NCTDR fellow and an associated researcher at Cyberjustice Laboratory of Université de Montréal. He holds a bachelor of law from Peking University and a JD from Washington University in St. Louis.
Michael is Senior counsel at E-business Better Service in Shenzhen city, Special mediator of the People’s Court of Futian District in Shenzhen, Mediator of Beijing Legal and Commerce Services Centre for B & R Initiative and International Commercial Mediation Centre, Mediator of Beijing Association for the Promotion of Diversified Mediation, Director of China Council for Arbitration Law and Director of China Society of Private International Law.
Michael has promoted ODR as an appropriate dispute resolution in China since 2011. For example, he helped set up an ODR process for the International Commercial Mediation Center for the Belt and Road Initiative in Beijing.
Michael has also attended UNCITRAL conferences to promote ODR including the 32nd session of UNCITRAL Working Group III (ODR) in 2015. He also participated in modifying the Introduction of the Technical Notes on ODR. In 2016, he attended its final session and successfully made a proposal to introduce the element of “security” into the Technical Notes. In 2018, Michael Fang attended the 56th session of UNCITRAL Working Group IV and explained the relevance and importance of ODR to resolution of disputes arising from cloud computing service.
