Professor Sue Prince

Professor Sue Prince is a Professor in the Law School at the University of Exeter.

Sue’s research interests focus on access to justice in the civil courts, particularly the role of court-based mediation and ODR. She conducted the first study of small claims mediation in England and Wales for the Civil Justice Council in 2004. Sue has researched fast track and multi track mediation at Exeter and Guildford County Courts and the small claims mediation scheme at Exeter County Court for the MoJ.

Sue has written on mandatory mediation in Canada and Florida and New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. She is a member of the Civil Justice Council Advisory Group on ODR led by Professor Richard Susskind, that recommended the online court, as a means of resolving low-value disputes. She is also a member of the JUSTICE group on Preventing Digital Exclusion which reported in 2018.   She is currently writing on the impact of the online court on the principle of open justice.
